7+/8+/9+ Tuition

What are the 7+/ 8+/9+?

The 7+, 8+ and 9+ are entry points into selective private primary schools. They are usually written tests in English, Maths, Reasoning and sometimes Spelling and Grammar. If successful in the exam your child is usually invited to an interview with a teacher or headteacher at the school before a place is then offered to those who have been successful.

The 7+ is taken in year 2 for entry into year 3. This is the most common entry point into a primary school. It is the first time a formal assessment is set for children. There are 4+ tests for entry into reception class but these are simply taster/experience days and whilst we'd be happy to chat to you about 4+ entry we don't advise any tuition for it. However the 7+ does require tuition given it is a written test requiring a structured approach and often stretches the child's knowledge to the ks2 curriculum which may not have been covered at their current school.

How can Thinkerer Education help?

The entry points to private school in the younger bracket are notoriously competitive and difficult. Its a simple fact that our kids develop at different rates and stages of life so some take to writing and exam technique quickly at a young age whereas others find it more of a struggle.

The good news is that we have effective methods of approaching these exams that give children the best chance of doing well. We of course can't promise success but rather we approach the preparation as not only a pathway to success but as development of important skills and knowledge that will aid their growth regardless of the outcome.
