GCSE

What are GCSE's?

GCSE's stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. They are exams taken by 16 year olds usually in year 11 of secondary school. GCSE curriculum is also known as KS4 (Key Stage 4) and there are over 60 subjects available although not all schools will offer all of them. Traditionally students will take exams in English Language, English Literature, Maths, two or three sciences, a modern foreign language, IT and they then choose humanities and arts subjects such as history, geography, theology, music, drama among others. Students will usually choose between 9 and 11 subjects to study and cover the material over years 10 and 11 of their schooling. The qualifications are primarily used to gain access to higher education at A level then university, however they are still viewed as important when entering the world of work, especially in English and Maths, if those subjects have not been chosen for study at higher levels.

How can Thinkerer Education help?

At Thinkerer we have a range of tutors who can help students prepare for their GCSE exams. Not only are our tutors subject specialists but they know the workings of the exams too.

It is advisable to start tuition for GCSEs in year 9 or 10 as it allows us to help shape your child's approach to the exams rather than having to assist when it all seems too much and too close to the exam day. We provide assistance in revision techniques and can help your child get all their notes ready whilst studying the material first time round so revision is not such a huge task when it comes to it.
